I think this software is exactly the kind of system envisioned in the "Digital Coin" proposal -- a system allowing self issued credit, which everybody decides individually weather to accept it or not. There is also an open marketplace for exchanging promises (via circular trade).

The software is easy to use, easy to localize (translate to other languages), works on any Internet-connected cell phone, and it is open sourced, of course :-)

Yes, I think that circular multibartering is equivalent to ripple and to the credit coin part of this proposal.
The main difference would be that instead of floating against one another, the IOUs here float around the permanent coin, a stable unit.
I think the permanent coin is feasible, but only as a reference (a definition), not as an actual cash-like (scarce) currency.
